Interesting fact: The naming of cyclones in the Indian ocean began in 2000.

‘Tauktae’ which is currently circling over in the East Central Arabian Sea, means “gecko” or a lizard (yup) and was termed by India’s neighbor Myanmar. It’s pronounced Tau’Te.

Why Cyclones are named?

This is a very interesting question something that can attract almost everyone’s attention. Why cyclones are named?

The answer is basic and logical, to send warning notifications about their development. The technical name can be tough for common people to understand or pronounce. Giving names to cyclones helps to create awareness and it gets easier for media and other authorities to provide information regarding the same.

What is a Tropical Cyclone?

To understand why Tauktae is being considered a danger, you should know what exactly a tropical cyclone is!

It is an intense circular storm that originates over ‘warm’ tropical oceans and is characterized by low atmospheric pressure, strong winds followed by heavy and massive rainfall. Such cyclones always have an eye for clear skies and the warm temperature of central regions.
